For the Arena Football League week 2 contests, DraftKings has split the games up into two slates. If you’re new to AFL DFS, check out our introduction.
The Philadelphia Soul (1-0) at the Baltimore Brigade (1-0) on Friday will get their own Showdown slate, our first of the AFL season.
Saturday’s slate is the Columbus Destroyers (0-1) visiting the Atlantic City Blackjacks (0-1) and the Washington Valor (0-1) visiting the Albany Empire (1-0).
Friday Showdown Slate
This is the first single game slate on DraftKings for the AFL, so we don’t know much about projected ownership. However, if you’re playing the $10 entry, $1k Air Raid, there are only 117 teams. You do not need to chase an obscure lineup in a small field.
Using this logic, I would lock in both QB’s – Shane Boyd ($9,600) and Dan Raudabaugh ($9,000). The AFL is dominated by QB play, and you’ll likely need the points to win.
FADE: Adrian Ferns ($8,200) FB
In week 1, Ferns had one of the best fantasy games you could ever hope for from a FB in the AFL – and finished with 22.7 total points. He wasn’t particularly efficient, with 12 yards on 8 carries, 3 rushing touchdowns, and 15 yards on 2 catches (2 targets).
They’ve priced him up at $8,200, a ridiculous price for the limited upside. Joe Hills is priced at $8,800 with a much higher floor and ceiling.
VALUE/LOCK: Aaron Wascha ($3,000)
Wascha wasn’t a factor in week 1 but confirmed he is playing week 2. He has one of the highest ceilings on the slate.
Darius Reynolds had 11 targets week 1 but has been put on the IR. Not only does Wascha benefit, but Darius Prince and Lonnie Outlaw will see more targets.
Overall, the Philadelphia passing attack was based on quick hitting, short passes in week 1. Raudabaugh averaged less than 5 yards per attempt, and Prince, Reynolds and Outlaw all had at least 8 targets.
Wascha may bring back more of a big play element to Philadelphia’s offense, and Darius Prince should remain the other top option. All the Philly WR options are good, but Wascha is the only one I’ll be heavy on compared to the field.
Saturday’s 2-Game Slate
There are some good values in this 2-game slate, especially at the WR position. Diving right in…
LOCK: Malachi Jones – $6,600 WR
Jones might be the best WR in the AFL and this is a great price. Last game he had 12 targets, 11 catches, 94 yards and just 1 touchdown.
I doubt Jones sees 12 targets with only 1 TD again. He is also a threat to break 100 yards (earning the 3 point bonus on DraftKings), and should be good for a couple TD’s.
VALUE: Kendrick Ings $3,200 WR
This is just a steal for a play like Ings. 2 years ago Ings had 98 catches, 1141 yards and 22 TD’s in the AFL for Tampa Bay. He lost last season to injury, but looked healthy in week 1.
He also got 6 targets in the second half after 1 in the first. During the first half he seemed to be off the field for several series. If he plays more snaps in week 2, the upside goes higher.
Ings also dropped a pass in the end zone. It was a tough play, but one he can make. He had 16.1 points last week and is priced at $3.2k.
At the same price you have Phillip Barnett. By the numbers they look comparable – Ings at 16.1 points, Barnett at 15.8 in week 1. However, Barnett had only 3 targets but 2 touchdowns. Ings is the upside play.
BONUS VALUE: Paul Revis $2,800 WR
This is assuming Revis remains a starter and Donovan Morgan does not return. Jenson Stoshak was the one to take in 2 TD’s last week, but Stoshak and Revis shared similar roles in the offense. Stoshak jumped to $5,600, so I’ll take Revis at half the price.
Injury related updates will be posted here and on Twitter (@SHR_Stats) as quickly as possible prior to slate lock.
